Pioneer Quiltmakers
Mary Bywater Cross, quilt historian and author, will
discuss the new edition of her popular history of Oregon Trail pioneer
quiltmakers and their quilts.
Quilts are much more than utilitarian objects to
Bywater Cross. As the author notes, “I seek to learn what (a) quilt can tell
about the woman who made it and the time and place in which she lived.” Quilters
will be familiar with her book Treasures In the Trunk, which has
been reprinted with a new title: Quilts of the Oregon Trail. This
book is a resource for quilt enthusiasts, Oregon Trail pioneer descendants,
educators, and historians. Copies of this book will be available for purchase as
will other Oregon foods and products.
