The FHC Museum Store is open year-round inside the Visitor Center at Champoeg State Park, during the hours the Visitor Center is open.  Stop by to see the outstanding museum exhibits.  While you're there, browse our great selection of Oregon History and natural history books, get a few arrowheads and pioneer memorabilia, children's puppets and other toys, convenience items, drinks and snacks. Enjoy your picnic lunch on the decks overlooking the Willamette River and the old Champoeg town site.

Annual Parking Passes good at all Oregon State Parks are available at the Museum Store. Parking at Champoeg and most Oregon State Parks is $3 per day.  But if you have a 12-month or 24-month pass, you can drive right in to any State Park in Oregon. You can purchase a 12-month pass for $25, or a 24-month pass for $40.

All proceeds benefit cultural and natural history programs at Champoeg.

In October the Historic Butteville Store closes for the 2007 season and will only be open for special events.  We will open again for the 2008 season next May!

Ride or walk to Butteville on Champoeg's bicycle trail.  The trail is about a mile and a half long, from the campground area and is nearly all off-road on a paved path.   When you get to the store, reward yourself with a root beer float or a hand-dipped ice cream cone. (You can drive to the store too.) We also carry:

  • Hot dogs & sausages (locally made; very good!)
  • Willamette Valley Fruit berry pies
  • Tillamook ice cream
  • Cold drinks & other snacks
  • Books on Oregon history, nature & recreation
  • Oregon products & art

We plan a full schedule of music, artists, authors, and other activities throughout the summer at the Butteville store.  Want to hear about special events ahead of time?  Get on our email list by contacting butteville@champoeg.org.

What does Butteville have to do with Champoeg?
In the first part of the 19th century the towns of Champoeg and Butteville were rivals, each trying to capture the shipping and services needed by French Prairie farmers. But only Butteville survived the great 1861 flood of the Willamette River.

When the steamboat era ended, Butteville receded into the sleepy residential hamlet it is today.

Download a page from the 2003 "Champoeg Heritage" (the park guide) to find out more about what Butteville—and the store—were once like (177KB). It will also help you imagine what Champoeg must have been like.
